Chiropractor in Redbank — What To Expect
If you've been thinking about seeing a chiropractor but aren't quite sure what to expect, this is for you. Whether you're dealing with back pain, neck pain, headaches, or simply feeling like your body isn't keeping up with the life you want to live — the first step is often the hardest one.
I've had this conversation hundreds of times over the past 15 years. People often arrive at our clinic in Redbank with a mix of hope and uncertainty. They want help, but they're not sure what chiropractic actually involves, whether it's right for them, or what's going to happen when they walk through the door.
So let me walk you through it — honestly and clearly.
Before Your First Visit
You don't need a referral to see a chiropractor in Queensland. You can book directly, and we'll take it from there. When you call or book online, we'll ask a few brief questions so we have some context before you arrive — things like how long you've been experiencing the problem and whether you've seen anyone else about it.
We're located at 6/59 Brisbane Road, Redbank — easily accessible from Ipswich, Redbank Plains, Goodna, Dinmore, Springfield and surrounding suburbs. There's parking directly outside.
Your First Appointment: What Actually Happens
The first appointment is longer than a standard visit — usually around 45 to 60 minutes. This is intentional. I want to understand your situation properly before I recommend anything.
1. We Start With A Conversation
The first thing we do is talk. I'll ask you about what's been going on — not just the physical symptoms, but how it's affecting your daily life. What can't you do right now that you'd like to be able to do? What have you already tried? How long has this been going on?
I find that the story behind the problem is often just as important as the problem itself. Understanding your lifestyle, your work, your history, and your goals helps me form a much clearer picture of what's actually going on.
2. A Thorough Physical Assessment
Once I have a clear picture of your history, we move into the physical assessment. This typically includes looking at your posture and how you move, testing your range of motion, assessing spinal alignment, and checking neurological function where relevant.
I may also perform orthopaedic and neurological tests depending on what you've described. If I feel that X-rays would add useful clinical information, I'll discuss that with you — but they're not automatically taken for every patient.
3. I Explain What I've Found
This is something I feel strongly about. Before we talk about treatment, I'll take the time to explain what I've found in plain language. What's contributing to your problem. Why it may have developed. What it means for your body.
I don't believe in rushing through this part. You deserve to understand what's going on in your own body — and that understanding is often the first step toward lasting improvement.
"Understand first. Recommend second. That's the approach I've built this practice around."
4. We Discuss Your Options
Once you understand what I've found, we'll talk about what I'd recommend — and why. I'll explain what a care plan might look like, how long it might take, and what you can realistically expect.
If I don't think chiropractic is the right approach for your situation, I'll tell you that too, and point you in the right direction. My goal is to help you — not simply to fill an appointment book.
Will I Receive Treatment On The First Visit?
This depends on the situation, and I want to be honest with you about that. In most cases, the first appointment is focused on listening, assessing and explaining. That process takes time to do properly, and I'd rather do it well than rush into treatment.
For many patients, hands-on care begins at the second visit — once we've had the chance to review the findings, discuss the options, and agree on the right approach together. Occasionally, if the situation is straightforward and everything points clearly in one direction, we may begin some gentle care at the end of the first appointment. But that's not the norm, and it's never assumed.
The first visit is about building a clear picture. The care follows from that.
What Does Chiropractic Treatment Actually Involve?
Chiropractic care at our clinic is tailored to each individual. Depending on your situation, your care might include:
- Chiropractic adjustments — manual diversified technique or gentle impulse instrument adjustments
- Spinal traction to help decompress and restore movement
- Trigger point therapy and soft tissue work
- Posture and ergonomic advice specific to your work and lifestyle
- Home exercises for strength, mobility and posture
- Lifestyle guidance to support your progress between visits
I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach. What works well for one person may not be the right fit for another. Your care is built around you.
How Many Visits Will I Need?
This is one of the most common questions I get asked, and it's a fair one. The honest answer is: it depends.
Some people come in with an acute problem and feel significantly better within a handful of visits. Others have been dealing with something for years and need a longer, more structured approach. I'll give you my honest assessment after the initial examination — including a realistic timeframe and what I'd expect to achieve.
I'll also be clear if I think your situation is beyond what chiropractic can help with, or if you'd benefit from working alongside another health professional.
Is Chiropractic Safe?
Chiropractic care, when performed by a registered chiropractor, is considered a safe and evidence-informed approach for many musculoskeletal conditions. All chiropractors in Australia are registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and are required to maintain ongoing professional development.
As with any health intervention, there are potential risks, and I'll always discuss these with you before proceeding. If there's anything in your history that would make certain techniques inadvisable, I'll adjust my approach accordingly.
Who Comes To See Us?
We see a wide range of people at Charlton Chiropractic — from young adults dealing with postural issues from desk work, to parents who've been managing back pain for years, to older patients wanting to stay active and independent as they age.
Many of our patients come from Redbank, Redbank Plains, Ipswich, Goodna, Dinmore, Springfield, Collingwood Park and Riverview. Some have been referred by their GP or another health professional. Others have simply found us through a search online or through word of mouth from someone they trust.
Ready To Take The First Step?
If you've been putting off doing something about your pain or discomfort, I'd encourage you to book a first appointment. The worst case is that you leave with a clearer understanding of what's going on. The best case is that we find a way to help you get back to the things that matter most.
You can book online through our Cliniko booking page, or call us directly on 07 3483 0485. We're located at 6/59 Brisbane Road, Redbank QLD 4301.
