You are moving more carefully because you are unsure what might bring the feeling on.

Dizziness, vertigo and feeling unsteady
When Feeling Unsteady Starts Changing The Way You Move Through Your Day
Dizziness, spinning or a feeling that the ground is not quite steady can be unsettling. You may notice it when you roll in bed, turn your head, look up, stand quickly or simply try to get through an ordinary day with confidence.
The part that can be hard to say out loud
When the room does not feel as steady as it should.
“I want to feel steady enough to get on with my day.”
A sudden spin, a floating feeling or a loss of confidence when you turn your head can make familiar places feel different. It is understandable to feel cautious when you cannot predict whether standing, looking up or moving quickly will bring it on.
Does this sound familiar?
Sometimes the hardest part is how quietly life changes around it.
Turning your head, getting up from bed or looking around in a busy place feels different than it used to.
You are not sure whether this is something to wait out, discuss with a GP, or have assessed.
What might be contributing?
Dizziness Needs Careful Screening Before Assumptions
Dizziness and vertigo can have a range of possible causes, including inner-ear, neurological, cardiovascular, medication and neck-related factors. It would not be appropriate to assume that every person needs the same explanation or the same type of care.
The first priority is listening carefully, screening for features that need medical attention, and considering whether chiropractic care, medical review or another pathway is the most appropriate next step.
What Dr Charlton assesses
Before recommendations, we take time to look at the whole picture.
Not every person needs every test or every approach. The assessment is shaped around what has been happening, what matters to you, and what the findings suggest is appropriate.
- Your symptoms, timing, triggers and relevant health history
- Whether your presentation includes features that need medical review
- Relevant neck movement, posture and neurological findings where appropriate
- Whether coordination with your GP or another health professional should come first
Practical questions, answered
A clear process before any care is recommended.
What happens at the complimentary consultation?
Your first visit starts with a complimentary consultation with Dr Charlton. He will listen to what has been happening, how it is affecting your life and what you would like to get back to. If it appears he may be able to help, he will then conduct a thorough examination relevant to your symptoms, health history and goals, before explaining the findings and appropriate next steps in plain language.
What testing might be relevant?
Dizziness and vertigo need careful screening before any assumptions. Dr Charlton will listen to the pattern, triggers, associated symptoms and relevant health history. If the presentation suggests medical, inner-ear, cardiovascular or neurological assessment should come first, this will be explained clearly. Hearing, balance, blood-pressure, blood-test or imaging investigations, where needed, are coordinated through your GP or another appropriate clinician.
When might another pathway be better?
For sudden, severe or recurrent dizziness, or dizziness with chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, new weakness or numbness, speech or vision changes, confusion, trouble walking or a severe new headache, seek urgent medical assessment. Ongoing symptoms or hearing changes may also need GP, ENT, neurology or vestibular-physiotherapy input.
What care could involve
A plan should make sense for your body and your life.
Where neck movement or musculoskeletal factors appear relevant and chiropractic care is appropriate, recommendations may include gentle hands-on approaches, mobility guidance, ergonomic support and practical home strategies. Recommendations always follow an individual assessment.
New or sudden severe dizziness, fainting, chest pain, new weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking or walking, double vision, sudden hearing loss, or a severe new headache needs urgent medical assessment.

Common questions
A few things people often want to know.
Can a chiropractor help with dizziness or vertigo?
Dizziness and vertigo can have many possible causes, so careful screening comes first. If musculoskeletal factors are relevant and chiropractic care is appropriate, this will be discussed after an individual assessment. Medical review may be the more appropriate starting point for some people.
Can neck symptoms and dizziness occur together?
They can occur together for some people, but that does not establish a cause. A careful history and assessment help determine whether neck movement is relevant and whether other assessment is needed.
