You notice the familiar pressure after a long day at a screen or behind the wheel.

Headaches and neck-related tension
When Headaches Start Taking Up More Space In Your Week
A recurring headache can make you feel like you are only half-present. You may push through work, turn down plans, become less patient with the people you love, or simply wait for the day to be over.
The part that can be hard to say out loud
A headache can take you out of the room before you leave it.
“I want to be present for my day, not wait for it to end.”
A headache can leave you physically present but not really available for the parts of the day that matter. Many people quietly push through work, family time or plans, then wonder how long they can keep doing that.
Does this sound familiar?
Sometimes the hardest part is how quietly life changes around it.
You are reaching for relief more often, but still do not know why the pattern keeps returning.
You have started planning your day around the chance of a headache.
What might be contributing?
Headaches Deserve A Careful Conversation
Headaches can have many possible causes and contributors. Neck tension, movement, sleep, stress, hydration, vision, medication and broader health factors can all be relevant for different people.
Rather than assuming a spinal explanation, we begin by listening to the full story and considering whether chiropractic care, medical review or another pathway is most appropriate.
What Dr Charlton assesses
Before recommendations, we take time to look at the whole picture.
Not every person needs every test or every approach. The assessment is shaped around what has been happening, what matters to you, and what the findings suggest is appropriate.
- Your headache pattern, onset, triggers and other symptoms
- Relevant neck, shoulder and upper-back movement
- Appropriate screening questions and neurological findings
- Whether referral or further medical investigation should come first
Practical questions, answered
A clear process before any care is recommended.
What happens at the complimentary consultation?
Your first visit starts with a complimentary consultation with Dr Charlton. He will listen to what has been happening, how it is affecting your life and what you would like to get back to. If it appears he may be able to help, he will then conduct a thorough examination relevant to your symptoms, health history and goals, before explaining the findings and appropriate next steps in plain language.
What testing might be relevant?
Most headache patterns are assessed through a careful history and screening rather than routine scans. Dr Charlton may assess relevant neck, shoulder and upper-back movement and perform appropriate neurological screening. If another investigation is indicated, such as an eye check, blood tests or brain imaging, this can be discussed with you and coordinated through your GP or another appropriate clinician.
When might another pathway be better?
A GP, neurologist or another health professional may be the right next step when headaches are new, changing, frequent or significantly affecting daily life. A sudden severe headache, or headache with vomiting, confusion, neck stiffness, visual change, seizure, loss of balance or other concerning neurological symptoms, needs urgent medical assessment.
What care could involve
A plan should make sense for your body and your life.
Where neck movement or muscle tension appears relevant, care may include hands-on approaches, mobility guidance, ergonomic support and home strategies. Recommendations are based on an individual assessment.
A sudden severe headache, a new headache after significant trauma, or a headache with concerning neurological symptoms needs prompt medical assessment.

Common questions
A few things people often want to know.
Can a chiropractor help with headaches?
Some people seek chiropractic care when neck tension or movement may be contributing. Whether it is appropriate depends on your presentation and on screening for other possible causes.
What happens at my first visit for headaches?
Your first visit starts with a complimentary consultation with Dr Charlton. He will ask about your pattern, onset, other symptoms, possible triggers and daily-life impact. If it appears appropriate, an examination and relevant screening follow before he explains the next step.
Will I need a scan or other test for headaches?
Most headache patterns are assessed through a careful history and screening rather than routine scans. If another investigation, such as an eye check, blood tests or brain imaging, is indicated, this will be discussed with you and coordinated through your GP or another appropriate clinician.
When should I seek urgent medical help for a headache?
A sudden severe headache, or headache with vomiting, confusion, neck stiffness, visual change, seizure, loss of balance or other concerning neurological symptoms, needs urgent medical assessment.
Should I see my GP first?
If your headaches are new, changing, severe or concerning, medical review is important. We will also recommend referral when that is the right next step.
