Pregnancy and changing movement needs
Support For A Body That Is Changing Every Week
Pregnancy asks a great deal of your body in a short space of time. You might be trying to stay active, keep working, sleep more comfortably or simply get through the day while your body feels different from week to week.
The part that can be hard to say out loud
A changing body can need more understanding, not more pressure.
“I want practical support that respects what my body is carrying.”
When your body is changing week by week, even familiar tasks can need a new way of being done. It can be a lot to carry while still trying to work, care for others, sleep and feel at home in your body.
Does this sound familiar?
Sometimes the hardest part is how quietly life changes around it.
Walking, standing, lifting or getting in and out of the car feels different.
You want practical support that respects both your comfort and your changing body.

Care During Pregnancy Should Adapt To You
Every pregnancy and every person is different. Previous injuries, activity, work, stage of pregnancy and guidance from your maternity-care team all matter.
The aim is to listen carefully and consider whether chiropractic care is appropriate as part of your broader pregnancy support.
What Dr Charlton assesses
Before recommendations, we take time to look at the whole picture.
Not every person needs every test or every approach. The assessment is shaped around what has been happening, what matters to you, and what the findings suggest is appropriate.
- Your stage of pregnancy, comfort and daily demands
- Relevant movement and postural changes
- Any medical or maternity-care guidance already in place
- Comfortable appointment positioning and whether further referral is needed
Practical questions, answered
A clear process before any care is recommended.
What happens at the complimentary consultation?
Your first visit starts with a complimentary consultation with Dr Charlton. He will listen to what has been happening, how it is affecting your life and what you would like to get back to. If it appears he may be able to help, he will then conduct a thorough examination relevant to your symptoms, health history and goals, before explaining the findings and appropriate next steps in plain language.
What testing might be relevant?
Your assessment begins with your stage of pregnancy, comfort, activity demands and any guidance from your GP, midwife or obstetric team. Routine imaging is not part of chiropractic assessment during pregnancy. If a symptom needs medical investigation or maternity-team review, Dr Charlton will discuss that with you and help direct you to the appropriate pathway.
When might another pathway be better?
Care during pregnancy should sit alongside your maternity care. Dr Charlton may recommend GP, midwife, obstetric or physiotherapy input where appropriate. Vaginal bleeding, severe or sudden abdominal pain, reduced fetal movements, severe headache, new leg weakness or numbness, or bladder or bowel changes need prompt maternity or medical assessment.
What care could involve
A plan should make sense for your body and your life.
If care is appropriate, it is adapted for comfort and may include gentle hands-on approaches, movement guidance, posture or ergonomic support and practical strategies for daily life.

Common questions
A few things people often want to know.
Is chiropractic care appropriate during pregnancy?
It may be appropriate for some people, depending on individual circumstances. An assessment and, where needed, communication with your maternity-care team help guide the right next step.
Do I need a referral?
You do not usually need a referral to book, but we may recommend coordinating with your GP, midwife or obstetric team where appropriate.
